In the dynamic world of digital marketing, understanding your campaign's performance is as vital as the campaign itself. One of the most powerful tools in your marketing arsenal?

Email marketing. Yet, the true power of email marketing can only be harnessed when you track the right metrics and use them to optimise your strategy. This is where the expertise of Lively Bee Studio comes into play.

At Lively Bee Studio, we firmly believe that data speaks louder than words. And when it comes to email marketing, this statement holds truer than ever. Tracking email marketing metrics not only gives you a clear picture of how your campaigns are performing but also provides valuable insights into your audience's behaviour and preferences. These insights, in turn, can be leveraged to fine-tune your emails for maximum engagement and return on investment (ROI).

In this blog post, we will delve deep into the significance of tracking email marketing metrics, highlighting how they can be used to assess the effectiveness of your campaigns.

So, buckle up and get ready to embark on a journey that promises to transform your email marketing game!

Understanding Email Marketing Metrics

Tracking key email marketing metrics is crucial to understanding how your campaigns are performing and making data-driven decisions to optimise results.

At Lively Bee Studio, we specialise in analysing email marketing data to determine what’s working, what's not, and how to improve your strategy for maximum return on investment.

👇🏼 Dive in and understand your metrics!

  1. Clickthrough Rate:

Your clickthrough rate (CTR) is the percentage of email recipients who clicked on one or more links in a given email. To calculate your CTR, divide the number of clicks by the number of delivered emails and multiply by 100.

For example, 500 clicks divided by 10,000 delivered emails equals a 5% CTR. CTR is a key metric for determining email and content performance as well as the results of A/B tests. According to industry benchmarks, a “good” CTR is 5% or higher.

  2. Open Rate:

Your open rate is the percentage of email recipients who opened a given email. While open rate can provide some comparative value, it is an unreliable metric on its own due to image blocking and email clients that don’t report opens. Focus on CTR and conversion rates instead.

  3. Conversion Rate:

Your conversion rate is the percentage of email recipients who click on a link and complete a desired action like filling out a form or making a purchase. Calculate your conversion rate by dividing the number of people who converted by the number of delivered emails and multiplying by 100.

For example, 400 conversions divided by 10,000 delivered emails equals a 4% conversion rate. This metric shows how well your emails achieve your goals and objectives.

  4. Bounce Rate:

Your bounce rate is the percentage of emails that could not be delivered. A high bounce rate can hurt your sender reputation and email deliverability. Regularly check your bounce rates and remove invalid email addresses from your list. Soft bounces may resolve on their own, but hard bounces indicate permanently undeliverable emails.

  5. List Growth Rate:

Your list growth rate shows how quickly your email list is expanding through new subscribers minus unsubscribes and spam complaints.

For example, 500 new subscribers minus 100 unsubscribes divided by 10,000 list members equals a 4% growth rate. Aim for steady, sustainable list growth over time.

  6. Email Sharing/Forwarding Rate:

The percentage of email recipients who share or forward your email to others. Although often overlooked, this metric shows how engaging your content is and helps you gain new contacts.

For example, 100 shares or forwards divided by 10,000 delivered emails equals a 1% sharing/forwarding rate.

  7. Overall ROI:

Your overall return on investment (ROI) from email marketing. Calculate your ROI by subtracting costs from revenue generated and dividing by costs.

For example, $1,000 in revenue minus $100 in costs divided by $100 in costs equals 900% ROI. Determine which metrics and key performance indicators drive the highest ROI to optimise your email marketing.

  8. Unsubscribe Rate:

The percentage of email recipients who unsubscribe from your list after opening an email. Although not directly related to your goals, monitor your unsubscribe rate to calculate your overall list growth. An increasing unsubscribe rate could indicate issues with your email content, frequency, or other factors that you may need to address.
